Dean Rieck points to Five Inexpensive Direct Mail Tools to Generate Sales Leads Fast
on the MarketingProfs site. It’s a great reminder of some of the simple, low cost ideas that you can use.
There are two ways to look at these:
- As an end to themselves – i.e. you’ll follow up for an appointment or to make a sale ASAP
- As the first step in a longer term permission based strategy including email newsletter, blogging, social media etc…
Five Simple Direct Mail Methods to Generate Leads Fast
Letter – Exactly what it says, a simple letter should
Show you understand the customers problem
Position your business as a solution
Demonstrate that through examples, case studies, testimonials or stats
Have a clear call to action (Rieck suggests a freebie)
Postcard – Great for driving traffic to your site and inexpensive
Flyer – I’m not 100% onboard with this idea but for what it would cost to test … Just make sure that your flyer hits on key benefits and doesn’t just look pretty
Invitation – A reason for a letter, postcard or flyer
Special Delivery – Will certainly get your mail out noticed
My advice is to test a few different ideas and measure the results against each other (a dedicated landing page on your website is a useful way to gauge response). The benefits are cost, ability to work in small batches and the fact that, when good, they will get read.
To make them good, stick to the 4 highlighted points above.
