How to get press coverage

PR / Media

by Mark Nagurski, August 13th, 2008

If you’ve ever wondered how some businesses get themselves featured in the papers, interviewed on TV or reviewed online, the answer is pretty simple - a noteworthy business coupled with good PR.

Of course, good PR involves having - or being willing to build - contacts in the media.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you knew exactly what the reporters and writers wanted - and how to contact them?

Well, Peter Shankman has the answer at helpareporter.com.

Simply add your name to his mailing list and you’ll get regular emails full of requests from reporters looking for sources - all neatly classified and with their requirements clearly outlined.

As Peter explains:

“I built this list because a lot of my friends are reporters, and they call me all the time for sources. Rather than go through my contact lists each time, I figured I could push the requests out to people who actually have something to say.”

It’s mostly USA at present but based on the attention the site’s getting I’d expect to start seeing more and more ‘international’ requests popping up.

In short, this one’s a “no-brainer” for any business looking to generate media coverage.

Glad you like - I think this is certainly something that could be copied in or extended to the UK.

Does anyone know of something similar that already exists?
