Nxtbook launch own custom publishing effort

Nxtbook Media

You’d hope that a digital publishing company like Nxtbook would ‘get’ content marketing.

Thankfully the seem to. Last week they announced the launch of their own digital magazine NxtManchester. Their blog says it gives them a better feel for the needs of clients; “By doing our own custom publishing projects, this will help us to best advise clients on ideal launch strategies for their own publications.”

All well and good. For me though it accomplishes two more things. First off it creates a working example of the kind of custom publishing their service can deliver. And secondly the content of the magazine itself serves to market the business as a trusted resource – as all good content can.

You can see the continuation of this content led ethos in their website. The Resource Section of the Nxtbook site features a blog, video, webinars and lots of case studies – just the kind of useful information a potential customer would be looking for.

Digital magazines, catalogs and brochures are certainly something I’ll be looking at in more detail but for now it’s good to know that a company that helps deliver content knows how to use it as well. My only question is why they don’t put more of their own content into digital magazine format?

In fact, why not take the NxtManchester idea further and publish the digital publishing trade mag?

(Update: Marcus from Nxtbook pointed me to LiNKED – their digital mag about how businesses are using new technology. Cheers Marcus)

What are your thoughts on digital publishing formats like digital magazines and digital catalogs?

We’d like to know. Do you read them? Have you used them? What are the pros and cons? What benefits are there over standard web pages?

Mark,

Thanks so much for the comments and thoughts on Nxt Manchester. Our UK office is very excited about the publication.

RE: covering digital publishing, we actually have another custom project called LiNKED Magazine that covers how media companies are using new technology to be successful (including digital publishing). Feel free to check out the latest issue of that here: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/linked/2008smrlinked/index.php?startid=10#/0

Thanks again for the comments!
