There are never enough hours in the day
No matter how much time and effort you put into creating useful content – and promoting it – there will always be something else you think you could add.
A new article on that topic.
A white paper on that aspect of your product.
An ebook full of case studies.
And while they may well all be good ideas, there never seems to be enough time or resources to get it all done. Of course, that’s true of any marketing strategy, not just content.
So what can you do? How can you find the time to create and promote the content that you want?
Content Marketing Strategy: It’s Not Just About You Writing Content
Here are a few quick ideas worth considering:
- Don’t create – curate: Successful content marketing requires you to deliver useful content to your prospective customers so that they look at you as a trusted resource. It does not require you to create all the content yourself. Find other useful resources and package them up for your audience. Junta42.com is an excellent example of a website that uses other people’s content, combined with their own.
- Partner Up: On a similar note you can partner with other businesses or individuals who can help you create useful content. Instead of running a workshop on your own, invite another business to participate – improving the content and expanding your marketing reach. The big players online use this strategy all the time – inviting other well-known industry figures to take part in interviews, webinars and speaking engagements.
- Re-purpose: Learn to repurpose your content from one medium to another. If you write a great article in your industry’s trade magazine it might form the basis for a blog post, or an ebook or a white paper.
- Hire in some help: OK, I’m a little biased on this one but finding a ghost writer to help you produce content based on your ideas can be an excellent investment. Not only will they be able to handle some of the busy work but they can also help rework existing materials into new content, come up with new ideas and possibly even get involved in promoting your content too.
- Take your time: It’s fantastic that you have so many ideas for great content but give yourself, and your prospects and customers, a break. It doesn’t all have to be done today and a steady flow of good content will be more effective over time than a sudden burst followed by weeks of nothing. Create a content creation calendar and set aside a few minutes each day (or whatever schedule works for you) to brainstorm ideas, research, create content and promote it.
Both quantity and quality should be considered in any effective content marketing strategy but be realistic about how much you can produce yourself and then look for help to find and create the rest.
