Introduction to Add-Art from Steve Lambert on Vimeo.
People don’t like advertising. People do like content.
Boil content marketing down to its most basic and that’s what you get. So it’s no real surprise that when given the chance, people happily nip out during the ad breaks on TV, skip through them using TiVo or Sky+ or use ad blockers while browsing online.
They want the content – not the advertising.
If that wasn’t enough of a headache for advertisers (and the media that depends on them) Add Art has come up with a clever way for people to avoid display ads online and see something they actually want – cool art.
Normally ad blockers simply display white space where ads would normally be. Add Art is a FireFox plugin that goes one step further and replaces the ads with curated art gathered from submissions.
Not only is a knock against display advertising but it’s also a nice reminder that online, the customer is in charge and decides how, when and if they’ll consume your media (and your advertising).
